For today’s snippet I pulled from a vampire book. Duh! *g* In particular Dark Bond, my short vampire story from the Love’s Immortal Pantheon anthology. A collection of stories about Gods and Goddesses and their randy ways. (which of course are not always very nice)
Enjoy this fun loving holiday and don’t eat too much candy.
“Damn you Ezra, why couldn’t you have stayed out of it?” He bellowed in pain.
How could a simple act of walking downtown after a few hours of drinking and dancing result in something like this? Regret filled him as he remembered all the opportunities he could have come clean and given Ezra the choice that could have prevented this.
His cool fingers touched Ezra’s face, wild grief ripping him apart with each breath. He couldn’t let it happen this way, he had to do something.
“Nyx!” he screamed. “I summon thee…please hear my call for help and forgiveness.” Wetness tracked down his face but he didn’t care, he had to find a way to save Ezra.
“Darken, you dare to summon me? Have you turned suicidal?”
His body jerked at the sound of her voice behind him. It had been so long since he’ heard it he thought he might have forgotten, but no, the smooth silk of it wrapped around him, bringing back a flood of memories he never wanted to remember.
“It’s not me I call you for.” He nodded to the body cradled in his arms. “It’s his life that needs you, not mine.”
“What do I care about your pet mortal? They die, get over it.” She walked around him standing where he could see her if he wanted but he still refused to look up. Laying eyes on her would change everything between them and yet nothing at all. This close he couldn’t avoid her scent though which was far more dangerous than her beauty. His fangs descended as he breathed in a deep noseful of her. His eyes flashed onto the black silk gown in his vision, the bare leg visible through a long slit in the skirt.
“Nyx please,” he whispered his humiliation to her. The begging nearly choked him but he knew it was the only way. Too much time had passed for him to believe she might actually do something for him. Oh no this would be about her.
“I’ve no interest in him, he has nothing for me.” Her hand reached out and grasped his chin, her power quaking through him at the touch. “Look at me Darken.”
He allowed her to tilt his head upwards and he got his first glimpse of the woman he’d loved but not seen for over one hundred years. Her black hair waved around her face and fell in ringlets far beyond her shoulders, her skin so dark it looked like the midnight sky itself, but it was the silver eyes that shone down on him as iridescent as ever that captured him.
“Please Nyx, you are the only one who has the power to save him. Name your price and it’s yours…anything.” He never thought he’d turn to her again, not after everything they’d done to each other but Ezra meant everything to him now and he couldn’t bear to see him die like this.
“Do you love this man? This…this mortal?”
“Does it matter?”
“No, I guess it doesn’t really matter at all. But are you sure you can pay my price?”
He nodded. He knew what she would want. She would take him for herself for as long as she wanted him and he would never see Ezra again. The pain of that had already lodged in his heart and over time would spread until he was numb and no longer cared. As long as Ezra lived and was cared for until he could care for himself he would be happy.
“You’re far too sure of my help, I don’t like that. It makes me look weak.” She let go of him and walked a few feet away. “No, that will not do. I think I will turn down your request.”
“No!” Darken jumped up from his lover and rushed toward her back. “Tell me what you want me to do, what it will take to get this done.”
“Tell me why you have forced yourself away from me for all this time.” Her question startled him. He thought they’d been through this enough.
“Save Ezra and you and I can talk about this for as long as you want but his time to be turned is almost up.”
She moved towards Ezra’s lifeless body and peered down into his blank, staring eyes. “He is beautiful.” Her gaze raked him from head to toe. “Did he fuck you better than I did? Is that why you can’t bear him to die?”
“Dammit Nyx, don’t be a bitch about this.”
She laughed next to him. “Come on Darken you know better than that. This is not me being bitchy. That has yet to come darling.”
“Curiosity maybe. I can almost picture the two of you together, naked and joined.” She licked her lips. “Are you sure you’re willing to pay any price?”
“Yes.” No hesitation. Whatever she dreamt up for him would be worth it for him.
“Fine. Do it.”
He knelt next to Ezra and swept his gorgeous brown hair to the side baring his neck. How many times had he dreamt of this very thing? Every time they’d had sex he had to fight his impulses to feed on him. He knew how much it would enhance both their pleasure but he’d made a promise not to lie and for once in his life he’d made a pact to follow through with it.
“I’m so sorry Ezra, I hope you will forgive me someday,” he whispered to his love before he pierced the skin smoothly and drank deeply. He moaned at the sweetness flooding his mouth. The rich, dark taste of Ezra…
“Oh my God, you haven’t drank from him before have you?”
